1. How to Add Double Carousel to a Page

The Double Carousel which come with Eram theme is a somehow special element that needs your page to be set in a certain way:

Use it in a Blank Page Layout

Make the containing row stretch and the contents

Add your the Double Carousel element

Then you can add it to the page. Please note that there is an element as the container with the general settings for the carousel and then each slide should be one separate element with setting for that slide.

2. Old support forum

If you are one of our previous support forum users, please accept our apology for this rough migration. We had to do this because of Envato new support policy in one hand and also providing a better and more reliable support platform in the other . Anyhow old forum topics are still available for archiving purpose and if you have any open topic in there, all you need to do is creating a ticket and mention the URL of your topic in old forum.

Please notice that due to Envato new support policy, each item has 6 month of support upon purchase and after that period you will need to purchase a support extension. If you faced an error about expiration of your support period, it is because your 6 month support period is over and you need to purchase a support extension package in order to use this ticket system.

Here is a link about Envato support policy for more details:

http://themeforest.net/page/item_support_policy

3. Fullwidth row in Visual Composer

By default all row element contents are wrapped inside a container because that's the way it should be when you want to build a regular page (contents are mostly contained) but there are special pages like sliders and carousels that need to be fullwidth.

In this case we need to edit the related row in Visual Composer and set the "Row stretch" option to "Stretch row and content ( no padding)" which you can see in the below screenshot:

4. How to add custom CSS to a page using Visual Composer

If you need to add/ modify a CSS in general you should use available child-theme but if you just need to add some styles to a specific page, there is an easier way using “page setting” feature in Visual Composer.

In following screenshots, we have created a sample page and want to insert a custom css:

01

And now just enter your styles and save the changes:

5. Build a Lightbox Gallery with Youtube Videos

Here is a video that demonstrates how to use lightbox gallery shortcode at Visual Composer.

Note:

You need to add this class name for the parent row as shown in the video:

Extra Class Name field : custom-grid tj-lightbox-gallery

6. Are you sure you want to do this? Please try again.

This is not a theme issue or bug.

If you are installing Eram theme from the WordPress theme installer, but get a message that says Are you sure you want to do this?, most likely your web server is configured with a PHP settings that only allow a certain size ZIP file to be uploaded via WP admin.

Most hosting companies configure their servers to only have the maximum file upload size limit at 8-10 MB, some are less. Eram theme zip file is around 14mb because of available plugins and all demos and WordPress is unfortunately giving you a rather ambiguous message in response.

There two ways to solve this problem.

7. Activating Visual Composer for portfolio

Before start adding your portfolios, you need to activate Visual Composer for portfolio plugin so you can have access to VC shortcode elements and templates. In order to do that please follow the steps:

1- Admin panel->Visual Composer->Role Manager

2-Select "Custom" for "Post types" options and check   owlabpfl” along with "page" and "post" and save changes.

8. Setting Frontpage and Blog Archive

By default, WordPress shows your most recent posts in reverse chronological order on the front page of your site. Many WordPress users want a static front page or splash page as the front page instead. This "static front page" look is common for users desiring static or welcoming information on the front page of the site.

To set a page as the frontpage you need two pages created.

Having these two pages created, go to Admin > Settings > Reading and find the settings for Front page displays and set the pages accordingly.

9. Working with galleries different layouts

In this article we are going to take a look into galleries layouts and different ways to present them in your website.

Here we assume you already have some albums and you posted some images to each one of them. If you have trouble doing that please refer to our video tutorial about adding photos to galleries.

Topics we are going to cover:

1- Add gallery album to menu and post to menu

2- Set gallery layout

3- Show album in a page using Visual Composer element

4-Show list of albums in page using Visual Composer element

Ok let’s do it.

1- Add gallery album to menu:

We must add gallery plugin to menus so we can add links to album pages.

Please go to Admin panel->appearance->menus and follow the screen shot:

01

If you select the owwwlab Gallery as well you can add link to each single images as well.

2-Set gallery layout

Now we have our album page and we want to change it’s layout. Each album can have two layouts which you can set in Album settings.

Please go to Gallery->Albums and click on one of your albums and follow the screenshot:

02

3- Show album in a page using Visual Composer element

In step two we had one way to show our albums, the other way is creating a page and include gallery inside it.

I have created a page, let’s call it “Fashion Gallery”.

Click on “backend editor ” of Visual Composer and then “Add element” :

03

As you can see we have those layouts here again “Grid” or “Horizontal”. Let’s add an album with Grid layout. Click in “Gallery Grid”:

04

Just enter the slug of your album. The slug is by default same as album name unless you set it something else. As you can see there are some other setting which you can customize the output.

The last step is setting the page template. Here we need to set page template as “Dark Fullwidth Page” and just publish the page.

4-Show list of albums in page using Visual Composer element

You can also add list of albums using “Gallery Albums” elements. If you use these element all of published albums will be listed in the page.

10. How to Add Icon for Menu Items

1- Go to admin > appearance > menus and add a menu item.

2- At top-right of the page click on screen options and make sure CSS Classes is checked.

3- Toggle Publications item at menu and  notice that there is a CSS Classes (optional)field. and type in fa-edit.

fa-edit is the class name of the icon from FontAwesome icon library. You can find other icons at their website and set desired classname as well. for example fa-busfor http://fontawesome.io/icon/bus/

If you need more assistance please don't hesitate to ask for support.

11. 'Missing Stylesheet' error on install of theme

No it's not broken, but this is a common error.

WordPress displays this error message generally when you have uploaded the wrong file.

We recommend you download the full package file from your download area at ThemeForest, not just the installable file, as it contains your photoshop files, XML import data, help file and much more.

Download the full package, unzip and grab a coffee with the instructional help file and follow the steps.

12. How to activate the Visual Composer for portfolio, posts, etc?

As an administrator user, you should go to Visual Composer settings > Role Management and you can define which user groups can use the visual composer on which post types.

13. How to rate a Item at Themeforest

Your rating and review is very important for us.

In case you have faced any problem in the product, please contact us, open a ticket and we will address the issue as soon as possible but if you are satisfied and feel like you want to give us a highfive, then you better make a 5 star rating for the item you purchased.

  1. Login into your Account on Themeforest
  2. When successfully logged in, move your mouse over your username as seen at the below image
  3. Navigate to your Downloads
  4. Search our template, move your mouse over the last star and click
  5. Then you may provide the reason
  6. Write a nice review and we will show it proudly to other people

14. How to add Portfolio and Gallery to Menu

Adding Gallery/Portfolio Categories and Archive to menu

Go to Admin > Appearance > Menus page and find the screen options at the top right of the page, then check the related options as can be seen at the below screenshot:

Adding Single Gallery/Portfolio to menu

This is as simple as adding a post or page to the menu.

15. What is a Child Theme and how to use it

What is a WordPress Child Theme

A WordPress child theme is a WordPress theme that inherits its functionality from another WordPress theme, the parent theme. Child themes are often used when you want to customize or tweak an existing WordPress theme without losing the ability to upgrade that theme. In the past, there was no easy way of updating WordPress themes without losing all the custom styling and changes that you had made. This becomes chaos when all the sudden you find out a widely used script in popular themes has a major exploit, and you need to update your themes ASAP. It becomes a tough choice because on one hand, you would lose all the custom styles if you update. On the other hand, you risk your site getting hacked if you don’t update fast enough.

The core team and the community decided to solve this problem by introducing the concept of parent theme and child theme. A child theme in WordPress would inherit all the functionality, features, and the code of the parent theme without making any changes to the parent theme itself. This allowed users to change the styling of the parent theme and add/modify features without losing the ability to update the parent theme.

Advantages of Using Child Themes

Using a child theme has many advantages some of which are as follows:

  1. Safe Updates

A child theme automatically inherits the parent theme’s features, styles, and templates. This allows you to make changes to your site using child themes without ever modifying the parent theme. When a new version of the parent theme arrives, you can safely update it as all your modifications are saved in the child theme.

  1. Easy to Extend

A child theme built on a powerful theme framework allows a great deal of flexibility without writing a lot of code. You can selectively modify only the template files and functions that you need without going through other template files. You can add new functionality and much more.

  1. Fallback Safe

When you are creating a complete theme you need to think about all the possible scenarios and code for them. However, when you are working on a child theme and you forget to code for something, then there is always the parent theme’s functionality available as the fallback option.

How child themes work in WordPress

Installing a WordPress Child Theme

Installing a Child Theme is almost the same as installing any other WordPress theme. The only difference is that you need both the parent theme, and the child theme uploaded to your WordPress theme directory.

How are themes modified without being modified?

For styling, this is possible thanks to the way Cascading Style Sheets work. In this particular case, the stylesheet of the parent is imported (by an explicit instruction) into the stylesheet of the child. Then, you add your own rules to the child’s stylesheet. When a rule you added conflicts with a rule of the parent, here is what happens — quoted from the CSS 2.1 Specification:

[I]f two declarations have the same weight, origin and specificity, the latter specified wins. Declarations in imported style sheets are considered to be before any declarations in the style sheet itself. — SOURCE

Let’s see an example. The parent stylesheet says:

body {
     color: #3f3f3f;
}

It means gray text (on white background) for the whole body of the HTML document. But you prefer black. So, into the stylesheet of the child you put:

body {
     color: #000000;
}

Now, obviously, the two declarations conflict. But, while they are equal in everything, they are different in this: The parent’s comes from an imported stylesheet, while the child’s is in the stylesheet itself. — The child wins!

SYNTAX OF CASCADING STYLE SHEETS

As you can see in the example above, the syntax of CSS is simple and the naming scheme intuitive:

There are rules. Each rule has a selector, for example body or p(aragraph), and a declaration block. The declaration block is enclosed in braces and it can contain several individual declarations, which are separated by semicolons. Each declaration has a property (in the examples above, color) for which a value is specified. That’s it!

Adding CSS rules to your child theme

· Changing the style of links

a:link, a:visited {
    color: #006600;
}
a:hover, a:active {
    color: #666666;
}

· Adding a font

body {
    font-family: "Trebuchet MS", "Lucida Grande", Sans-Serif;
}

· Hiding an element

#searchform label {
    display: none;
}

Putting it all together and activating the child theme

In a few minutes you constructed 4 CSS rules: 2 for links, 1 for fonts, and 1 to hide something from display:

/* Theme Name: your-name
Theme URI: your url/
Description: Child Theme for parent-theme
Author: you
Author URI: your url
Template: toranj
Version: 0.1
*/
@import url("../parent-theme/style.css");

a:link, a:visited {
    color: #006600;
}
a:hover, a:active {
    color: #666666;
}
body {
    font-family: Verdana, Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, Sans-Serif;
}
#searchform label {
    display: none;
}

18. Advanced Typography Customization Guide

Although there is an option to change the font-face at theme options, but there has been demands for customizations of typography. So, if you want to gain control of the typography of the theme and customize it to make your client happier with your work, here is one way to do it.

First you need to install and activate a plugin called Easy Google Fonts. Under Settings / Google Fonts menu you can add font controls, think of them as a group of CSS selectors that you can change the font of them all at once, the will share the same font style.

For instance if you want to change the font-face and font-size of the caption over the Ken-burn Slider at your homepage you need to

Now, you can go to Customizer > Typography > Theme Typography and add you style ( see image below )

Now that you have seen how the whole process works, here are settings for most relevant scenarios.

I want to change font family of all headings.

If you want to change the font family of all headings here is what you need to paste into Add CSS Selector field of your control

19. Add Single Gallery to a Page

Creating a gallery with Eram is an ease, so if you want that gallery inside a page along with other elements here is what you should do.

Suppose you have created a gallery named "kenburn for home". Using Visual Composer you can add that to your page.

Find the Single Gallery element at Eram Category or just simply search element by name.

Then type in the name of the gallery.

That simple.

There are some concerns about various layout types of galleries being in a page regarding it's height:

Please note that at the current version of the theme (2.0) it is not possible to have more that one horizontal gallery in a page and it should be used as a solo element in the page.

20. Updating theme and plugins

Topics we are going to cover:

1- How to get notified about updates

2- Updating theme using Envato toolkit plugin

3- Updating theme and plugins from WordPress admin panel

4- Updating theme and plugins using FTP

5- Do I need to worry about my website contents?

1- How to get notified about updates

Each time that we release a new update, an email notification will be send to customers that are in notifying list.

Please go to your themeforest account download page and make sure the “Get notified by email if this item is updated” is selected for Toranj theme.

2- Updating theme using Envato toolkit plugin

If you have installed and activated the Envato toolkit plugin you can update your theme directly from Envato server.

When the plugin is activated you should see ” Envato Toolkit” in your admin panel menu. If it is not there then you need to install and activate, the latest version of plugin can be found in package folder-> plugins-latest versions.

After activating the plugin, you need to know your ThemeForest username and API key to set up the connection.

Where you can find your API key

If you’re using an app that requires your API key, you can find it by visiting your Account page then clicking the My Settings tab. At the bottom of the page you’ll find your account’s API key and a button to regenerate it as needed.

Here is a screenshot of setup up page:

05

After setup you should see your purchased themes has been added at the end and there is a notification about updates, if there is any update available:

06

All you need to do is click on update automatically and theme will be updated.

3- Updating theme and plugins from WordPress admin panel

You can update the theme using “Envato toolkit” but still you will need to updates packaged plugins manually.

The latest version of theme and plugins are always available in your themeforest account download page. You need to re-download the package and unzip it somewhere on your computer.

After unzipping the package you can find the latest version of theme in “toranj theme” folder but before updating you must deactivate and delete the old verison of theme.

In order to do that please go to your admin panel -> appearance-> Themes and activate any other available theme other than Toranj (Twenty Fourteen for example) and then click on Toranj theme details.

As you can see in following figure, there is a delete link at the right bottom corner of pop up:

07

Ok now we need to install the latest version which is available in “toranj theme” folder inside downloaded package. If you forgot the installation process please check following tutorial:

Theme & plugin Installation

Updating plugins:

We have some plugins in Toranj theme like Gallery, Portfolio and etc that might need updating as well. After installing the new version of theme you will a notification in admin panel about the plugins which needs updating.

You can find latest version of plugins in “plugins – latest versions” folder but first you need to deactivate and delete the old ones. In order to do that go to admin panel -> plugins and dectivate and delete all plugins that needs updating. After that you should install those plugins again by uploading the zip file. If you forgot installing plugins please check following tutorial:

Theme & plugin Installation

4- Updating theme and plugins using FTP

This one is little advanced, if you do have access to your server FTP you can overwrite the theme and plugins files directly.

For uploading theme, unzip the theme file (toranj-theme-v*.zip) and upload the toranj folder to following address on your server:

WordPress root-> wp-content-> themes

For uploading plugins, unzip the plugin zip file and upload the folder to following path:

WordPress root-> wp-content-> plugins

5- Do I need to worry about my website contents?

Generally no update does not effects contents unless we mention it in update section of documentation but it is recommend that you get a backup before starting the procedure.

21. Updating packaged plugins

Page builders like Visual Composer and sliders are most used commercial plugins in WordPress themes. The plugins are included in your download package and we have purchased an extended license from the plugin author to do that. The permission from plugin author is only for using the plugin by customers not auto updating or getting support from plugin developers.

Updates for these commercial plugins are only available through our releases. So if there is a new version of a specific commercial plugin that has been bundled in of our theme is available you need to wait for next release of your theme. We will regulary check those plugins and always include latest version in our theme packages.

Other than that if you need immediate update option or support from plugin developer you should purchase separate license from plugin author in CodeCanyon.

22. How to add extra JavaScript via child-theme

Here we assume that you know how to use child-themes and you have already activated the child-theme provided with your package.

We want to add this piece of code to our wordpress theme:

$(':input[type=number]').on('mousewheel', function(e){ e.preventDefault(); });

Solution:

Here we can put our code into a separate file and load it at our pages.

1- make a new folder inside your child-theme named for example js

2- make a new file inside /js folder named my-scripts.js

3- put this code inside the my-scripts.js file.

(function($){

    //remove this after testing
    alert('your script is loaded');

    // your code here
    $(':input[type=number]').on('mousewheel', function(e){
        e.preventDefault();
    });

})(jQuery);

4- open up functions.php of your child-theme and enqueue your script inside toranj_child_latest_enqueue function, so your function will be like this:

function toranj_child_latest_enqueue(){

    wp_register_style( 'child-theme-style', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/style.css','1.0.0');
    wp_enqueue_style( 'child-theme-style');

    //add your scripts
    wp_register_script( 'my-child-script', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/js/my-scripts.js', '1.0', true );
    wp_enqueue_script('my-child-script');

}
add_action("wp_enqueue_scripts", "toranj_child_latest_enqueue", 10000);

5- Save your work, upload changes and then refresh your page.

23. Troubleshooting WordPress in 60 Seconds

Here is how you can find out what is making problems at your WordPress website and quickly realize if the issue is from the theme or other 3rd party plugin.

24. How to Add Rail Carousel to a Page

The Rail Carousel which come with Eram theme is a somehow special element that needs your page to be set in a certain way:

Use it in a Blank Page Layout

Make the containing row stretch and the contents

Add your the Rail Carousel element

Then you can add it to the page. Please note that there is an element as the container with the general settings for the carousel and then each slide should be one separate element with setting for that slide.

1- Background types are

2- Theme is the coloring scheme of the carousel

3- Background Overlay is an overlay on the background of the carousel.

4- Mouse Parallax Effect enables a 3d parallax on mouse over on the carousel.

And then there is the single slide setting which various setting of the slide can be set there.

Please open a ticket if you need further help on this.

27. How to use the Instagram widget

Here are the required steps to add an instagram feed to your page and also any other widget using Visual Composer:

1- Install and activate "WP Instagram Widget" if you haven't already, it will create a instagram widget on your site.

2- To show any widget in a page using Visual Composer, we need to create an area to display it which is a sidebar . It can be done in dashboard->appearance->customize->theme settings->sidebars.

Here you can create a sidebar and when you add this sidebar to a specific page, all of it's widgets will be visible.  Create one for instagram and give it a proper name like "instagram sidebar". The name is just used for reference and it's not important.

3- Go to dashboard->appearance->widgets and you should see instagram widget in available widgets and also our newly created "instagram sidebar" on the right side. Just add the instagram widget to the "instagram sidebar" by drag and drop and then set it's settings. Here is a screenshot of the widget page:

The important settings are :

1- instagram username that you want to show it's feed.

2- size of the photos which is best to be set on thumbnail size to include in a page.

Lastly you will need to actually add that widget area to your page which can be done by Visual Composer "widgetized sidebar". Please edit the page you want to add widget to it and follow the below screenshots:
